• HEARTBREAKING BAD NEWS! THE SPORT LOSES TWO MOTOCROSS ICONS

GODSPEED! ERIC CRIPPA (1950-2024)

Eric Crippa was one of the sports best known, best liked, funniest, quirkiest and most experienced factory mechanics of the 1970s through the 1990s. As a local racer, who decided that he was a better mechanic than racer, Eric rose to fame originally as a Husqvarna mechanic for Swedish star Gunnar Lindstrom in 1973, before guiding Kent Howerton’s Husqvarna to the 1975 500 National Championship. Eric left Husqvarna in 1979 when Gunnar Lindstrom became the Honda team manager and hired him to wrench for Chuck Sun, who Eric had worked for at Husqvarna, and the pair won the 1980 500 National National Championship. He also was hand-selected by Roger DeCoster to be part of the winning 1981 Trophee des Nations and Motocross des Nations teams.

Eric also spent time the working in the Honda  R&D department with Roger DeCoster and eventually in 1989 he moved to the press relations department working with the motorcycle media — most notably with MXA. He retired from Honda in 2009, but unfortunately had heart issues, leading to triple bypass surgery. He recovered, eventually passed away at the age of 74 from heart issues.

GODSPEED! ROBERT REISINGER (1960-2024)

Robert Reisinger, a former AMA professional racer and Kawasaki test rider, suffered severe injuries during a race at Glen Helen Raceway. In the fourth lap of his first moto, Robert was in second place when he moved to his left on a fast straight to avoid a lapper. As he moved over, his wheels went into soft dirt on the edge of the track. This caused him to swap back the right and violently lose control. Robert was thrown off his bike at approximately 50 mph. He suffered a fractured C2 vertabae and spinal cord compression. He succumbed to his injuries 14 days later.

Robert was a very integral part of the moto community. He was an AMA Pro racer, founded the Mountain Cycle bicycle company, flew helicopters, was a graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in engineering. Most significantly Robert was the engineer behind the technology in the revolutionary 6D Helmet. Robert was a dedicated motocross racer and spend almost every weekend racing at Glen Helen along with his son Nick (above).

•  TOMAC & WEBB WILL MISS THE START OF THE 2024 AMA 450 NATIONALS

Cooper Webb bravely raced through the final three AMA Supercross events with a severe ulnar tendon injury to his left thumb. Now that the Supercross season is over, Cooper will have surgery on his thumb and have to miss a significant part of the 450 Nationals..

In an amazing coincidence, Eli Tomac was forced to miss the final round of the 2024 AMA Supercross Championship—and give up the possibility of finished third in the 2024 AMA 450 Supercross Championship because of a thumb injury. Eli will also miss the opening rounds of the 2024 AMA 450 Nationals while recovering from surgery..
