ZOAR MOTO-PARK 50TH REUNION & RIDE DAY
This September 23-24, to mark the 50th Anniversary of Zoar Moto-Park which has been closed and grown over for decades, a gentleman named Ed Abdo is undertaking a restoration of this unbelievable track for a weekend reunion and ride day. There is a facebook page (Zoar Motopark) for the event that posts pics of the work done so far, and updates.
The tower at Zoar wasn’t a metal structure. It was made from logs in an a tee-pee pattern. Zoar Moto-Park had a lot of big downhills, but the tower had the biggest drop.
Zoar Moto-Park is in Springville, New York, located 45 minutes southeast of Buffalo, it hosted an AMA 250 National and 500 Trans-AMA on September 23, 1973 and a 250 Inter-Am (with a 125 World Cup) on July 28, 1974. The riders who raced at Zoar were Pierre Karsamkers, Mike Hartwig, Tim Hart, Jim Pomeroy, Tony DiStefano, Gary Jones, Gary Semics, Marty Smith, Bob Harris, Rich Thorwaldson, John Franklin and Steve Stackable.
One man has spearheaded bringing the track back to the original layout and that is Ed Abdo. This iconic track is well known for its hills and natural terrain layout as well as being the home track of local heroes Frank and Andy Stacy from Cheektowaga. We want to thank Mark Williams for bringing the 50th Reunion to MXA’s attention.
The first turn in 1974. The fans had a natural amphitheater to watch from. That big tree is still there.
Forgotten motocross tracks don’t often get the opportunity to make a comeback, so mark your calendar, dust off you old gear and be there! For more info call (716) 783-5174.
